Mastermind es un juego de mesa en el que un jugador desafía a otro a descubrir una clave (combinación de colores) oculta.
El jugador que debe descubrirla tiene un número de intentos predeterminado de antemano, sabe que tamaño tiene la clave (cuantas cifras o posiciones tiene) y conoce los colores diferentes posibles con los que puede probar. Por último puede decidirse entre ambos contendientes que en la clave puedan existir colores repetidos o no.
En cada intento, el jugador que conoce la clave debe indicar al otro jugador cuantos colores acertó en el sitio exacto (lo marcará con bolitas negras) y cuantos acertó pero en un sitio no exacto (lo marcará con bolitas blancas).
Si el jugador que intenta adivinar lo consigue antes del número de intentos fijados, habrá ganado, en cambio, si agota todos los intentos y no lo consigue, habrá ganado el que pensó la clave secreta.
